ADHD/ADD Evaluation & Treatment
Evaluation and Diagnosis of Symptoms
Our staff will do the initial evaluation if you think your child is having problems with focusing and attention. We also continue to treat your child after an initial diagnosis has been made.
The ultimate goal in the treatment of ADHD/ADD is to make your child as successful as possible in all aspects of his or her life
How do you diagnose and treat ADHD?
To evaluate and diagnose ADHD, our professional team uses tools such as Vanderbilt questionnaires (checklists of symptoms) completed by parents and teachers and a thorough discussion with both parents and children about their academic, social, and emotional successes and challenges. Your child also has a thorough physical exam to ensure another medical issue is not the cause of their symptoms.
ADHD treatment may include behavioral interventions (skills training, counseling, etc), educational accomodations, and in some cases medications.
After a child is diagnosed with ADHD, what kind of follow up is recommended?
Once your child has an ADHD diagnosis, your pediatrician prescribes treatment and schedules regular follow-up appointments to monitor their progress. Initially, follow-up appointments are scheduled every few weeks to allow for close monitoring and adjustments to the treatment plan. Once symptoms are well controlled, follow-up appointments are typically scheduled for every 3 to 6 months. For your convienance, many of these follow-up visits can be scheduled as virtual telemedicine visits, but we require in person visits at least twice per year for re-examination. With advance notice, we are often able to include a follow-up ADHD visit during your child's annual checkup as well.
If you or your child's teacher are concerned about your child's inattentive, hyperactive, or impulsive behaviors, contact our office to schedule an ADHD evaluation.
