CCWS Mission

At the Children’s Clinic of Winston-Salem, we aim to create an Ideal Pediatric Practice by providing high quality, high touch, care that is evidence based and family-centered in order for each child to thrive.

CCWS Vision

In a world where bigger is often assumed to be better, we set out to do things differently as an intentionally small, independent pediatric practice. The design of the Children’s Clinic of Winston-Salem is based on the concept of the “Ideal Medical Practice."

This model uses a core team of highly trained staff and technology to maximize efficiency and access while delivering high quality care, resulting in an improved healthcare experience for patients and their families but also for physicians and the entire healthcare team.

CCWS will be in contrast to the traditional pediatric practice where higher volumes typically result in shorter, more rushed appointments, longer waits for calls to be returned or difficulty getting a timely appointment which increasingly leaves patients frustrated and physicians and healthcare workers exhausted and overwhelmed. Instead, with a lower patient-to-doctor ratio, we at CCWS have the luxury to spend more time with our patients and their families (both face-to-face and virtually in between clinic visits), allowing us to get to know and understand your family better so that we are better able to partner with you to care for your children. Our goal is to create the superb healthcare experience that we would choose for our own families, by focusing on the QUALITY of care we provide rather than the QUANTITY of patients served.

At CCWS, one size does not fit all, and smaller, not bigger, is better.

How is CCWS Different?

  • Practice Size and Environment:

  • Smaller size, Personalized Care:  As a smaller clinic caring for fewer patients than a traditional practice, we have the opportunity to learn what makes each child unique and how to best support them.

  • Extended Appointments as Needed:  By capping the number of patients to a smaller number than a typical practice, CCWS is able to offer extended appointment times whenever needed.

  • Welcoming Environment: When you walk through our doors, you'll be greeted by familiar faces. We know your name and you know ours. Fewer patients means shorter waits and less hectic visits. And our sensory-friendly space creates a calmer atmosphere.

  • Efficiency and Access:

  • Direct Text Messaging: CCWS uses a HIPAA-compliant secure text messaging platform to allow patients’ families to send and receive secure text messages with our team directly, eliminating the need to wait on hold or play phone tag with our clinic.

  • Online Portal: CCWS’s state-of-the-art, pediatric-specific electronic medical record portal allows for patients to schedule appointments and pay bills online, update insurance information, and complete necessary forms, all with the touch of a button or a swipe of the screen.

  • Extended hours via Telemedicine: CCWS offers telehealth visits after hours to expedite care whenever possible.

  • Specialized Care:

  • Fourth Trimester: CCWS offers in-depth newborn care with frequent check-ins via text to ease the transition after bringing your bundle of joy home and as you navigate the “fourth trimester.” And as a certified lactation consultant, Dr. Brown happily provides breastfeeding support to postpartum mothers whenever needed.

  • Behavioral Health: Dr. Brown has a passion for caring for neurodiverse patients and helping families navigate developmental, behavioral, and learning challenges.

  • Care Coordination: For patients whose care is more complex and who may be followed by multiple specialists, Dr. Brown takes an active role in dialoguing with physician colleagues, therapists, and other health care providers to ensure continuity of the medical care plan so that your child’s entire healthcare team is working together to provide the best possible care. Additionally, CCWS collaborates with schools, therapists, and counselors in our community to provide additional support to our families. We pride ourselves in the care-coordination services we provide to help navigate what can sometimes be a challenging road.
