Becoming a New Patient

  • Are you expecting a baby?
  • Thinking about transferring care?
  • Want to learn more about our clinic and tour the office?

How Does My Newborn Become a Patient?

A few weeks before delivery, call our office to let us know you are expecting and to learn about our clinic and our practice model. We'll get you registered in our system ahead of time to make things simpler after baby makes their grand debut.
After delivery at any of the local hospitals, the hospital pediatric team will provide care while your baby is in the newborn nursery.
We prefer to see babies within a day or two after discharge from the hospital to establish care as early as possible so as to best be able to answer any questions you may have, closely monitor your baby's weight (most infants lose weight for the first few days after birth), provide lactation support if needed, and fully evaluate for any medical issues (such as jaundice) that may necessitate monitoring or intervention. Once you know what day your baby will be coming home, please go ahead and call our office to schedule your baby's first appointment.

How Does My Older Child Transfer to CCWS?

Our practice functions most effectively as your child's medicalbrown-25.jpg home if families provide complete medical history and information about care obtained outside of CCWS prior to establishing care.

We will need your child’s complete medical records transferred to our office before scheduling your first appointment.

Simply complete our registration form to apply to join our practice.

Are We Accepting New Patients?

As of 2026, we are accepting all newborn patients but have a lottery system in place for other patients requesting to join our practice.

How long is the expected wait?

Because we're a small practice, we don't keep a formal wait list. Instead, we periodically accept transfer patients whenever we have capacity to onboard new families. Openings vary depending on our current patient volume, so timing isn't predictable—sometimes we can accept several new families right away, other times it may be a few months. We do prioritize infants and toddlers but we encourage having a backup option in case space is limited when you need it.

Do we keep a waitlist?

Not in the traditional sense. Rather than a first-come, first-served list with long wait times, we reach out to interested families as openings become available, based on capacity at that time. This keeps our practice from becoming too large to provide the personalized care to which we are committed. Not every family who applies will get an opening, and we know that's hard—we're glad Winston-Salem has other excellent pediatric practices as options.

How long should you wait?

There's no fixed cutoff, since openings depend on our current capacity. If you haven't heard from us within 2-3 months, an opening is unlikely in the near term, though we keep applications on file and occasionally reach out later if space opens up. We ask that you not resubmit, since that could delay other families from finding a long-term provider.

What do we do with your information?

Your contact information is kept secure and used only to reach out about your request—never for marketing. We also use it to confirm insurance network status and get a sense of your needs; this generally won't affect your chances unless we're out-of-network with your plan or you need services we don't provide. We welcome and do not discriminate against families of any background.

Are children accepted one by one, or the whole family?

The whole family—including future children—since we provide family-centered care.
